The management of BEDC Electricity Plc. has urged customers to support the ongoing enumeration exercise in its franchise states of Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti states.
According to the Chief Transformation and Strategy Officer, BEDC, Mr. Ernest Edgar the exercise which is in compliance with the directive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to all distribution Companies (Discos), is geared towards improving accuracy in billing, improving quality of supply and prompt response to faults and also to ensure proper planning for network expansion.
“Our esteemed customers are enjoined to cooperate with our enumerators who will be going round various locations in the four states by responding promptly to requests for completion of enumeration form with a passport photograph, a utility bill for postpaid customers and vending slip (for PPM customers) mobile number and email address.
In the event that you are not around, kindly leave your electricity bill/vending slip in a location that can be accessible to our teams.” Edgar said further.
Edgar explained that the enumeration exercise is to assist the Disco to curtail irregularities and malpractices in electricity distribution, sharp practices committed by illegal electricity users, adding “it is one to bridge huge financial deficit in power sector as actual number of consumers will be established”.
Enumeration he stressed further, was important for customers and one of great benefits that could improve metering and help discos respond to electricity issues quickly and also help establish the actual number of power users across the country.
Presently, the enumeration exercise is being held in 35 locations in Edo state, 48 locations in Delta, 43 locations in Ondo and 9 locations in Ekiti State.
Managing Director/CEO, BEDC, Mrs. Funke Osibodu who gave progress report on the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme at a Press Briefing said those parties selected from the recent financial bid review process have been submitted to NERC for final clearance soon.
She hinted that the metering of customers under MAP in the company’s franchise areas is expected to commence after the NERC’s approval, adding “the process will involve customer sensitization, enumeration, location clean-up of electrical wiring, relocation of existing meters, where needed and full metering area by area”.
BEDC it will be recalled engaged 390 youth corpers under the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) to assist with accelerating the company’s ongoing customer enumeration.
