Report reaching our PowerUp News desk says Ikeja Electric, one of the electricity distribution companies covering Lagos, has lost another staff in the line of duty.
This sad occurrence happened on the 20th of December due to what an inside source claimed to be “non use of proper grounding equipment”.
The staff, simply identified as Tunde, from the Ijede Undertaking was said to be on duty on the 11kva Distribution Line when this sad incidence happened.
The source said “Tunde used only one grounding equipment instead of two, and I guessed there was a reversed current”
The “reverse current” was said to have occurred when another company on the distribution network put on their Generator, and there was feedback into the network.
This could have been forestalled by use of “double grounding equipment”.
NERC and Ministry of Power, Works and Housing should begin to sanction such companies and put measures in place to avert reverse current to Disco lines. Similar incident happened at Isolo in Feb 2016 when IkejaElectric lost two staff.
Ikeja Electric’s Heads of Communication, when reached for comments only said the matterbis under investigation.
